Once again we had the absolute pleasure of Shihan Rowen at the Dojo and he took all who
attended through some basics of the short staff (Jo) and Tonfa. Shihan is hoping to come
back again at the end of October.
This was the second and very successful seminar in mixed martial arts training.
Peter cover pad drills and pair work drills from the standing position taking it to the ground.
I especially did not enjoy being kneed in the groin over and over again by young James Venning.
He on the other hand though it was great.
Sensei Andrew conducted another bunkai course for Sensei Chris Summers of Yeovil Higashi Karate. We covered applications from Pinan Nidan that included escapes from grabs using Gedan Barai (lower blocks) and various other take offs and takedowns. The session ended with the last two moves of the Kata applied as a controlling hold then into a lock and takedown. See Photo section for slide show of the session.
On sunday 20th March twenty members of the club took part in the first of many competitions coming up in the future. The club came second on the day and all who entered enjoyed the event. I high standard was shown by the members of Yeovil and Crewkerne clubs who had kindly invited Bushi members to their friendly comp. We are all looking forward to the next event. There will be senior events to follow and both Kata and Kumite sessions coming up.
Well done to everyone who took part. See the Photo sections for pictures of the event.
